The Texas Retired Teachers Association’s Legislative Committee held meetings throughout July 18-19 to discuss the 2017 Texas Legislature. The committee is comprised of 21 members from the various TRTA districts.

The Texas Retired Teachers Foundation recently awarded a $500 classroom assistance grant to Donna Magjarevich, a dyslexia teacher at Selman Intermediate School in Sealy ISD. TRTF gives 15 such grants statewide annually. Magjarevich applied for the grant to update the dyslexia program currently used with the students she serves. The Foundation is the charitable arm of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Your heart is healthy
If your body is fine
Don’t Forget;
Healthy heart needs a clear Mind.

Stay away from Stress & Tension.
Your heart needs your clear attention.
Your eating habits must be defined
For a healthy heart; keep this in mind.

Workout daily to burn extra fat
Your working out correctly; be sure of that.
Give equal time & importance; for body and mind
Cause your heart is healthy; if your body is fine.

February is American Heart Month.  The American Heart Association says,

“Loving your heart is a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your family and friends.  Because when you take care of your heart, you’ll enjoy a longer, healthier life.  So you can be there, in good health, for your loved ones.  So this Valentine’s Day, while many people exchange flowers, chocolates and other gifts, give something that has far greater meaning for you, for your loved ones, for people across the nation…the gift of a healthy heart.”

Healthy meals can be prepared at home or at many restaurants that have created healthier entrees.  Be sure to consider calories, fat, sodium, and carbohydrates when preparing or ordering.  Don’t be hesitant to ask the server to ask the chef to omit salt, MSG, or butter.  A healthy and romantic option to dessert is to share the sweets with your sweet.

Here’s a partial list of where you can begin your search for healthy restaurant meals.
